Sydney audiences just can’t get enough of The Lovers! Due to overwhelming demand, three extra and final performances have been added, with the season now running until 23 November at the Theatre Royal Sydney.
Opening 31 October for a strictly limited three-week run, this breakout Australian pop musical is produced by Shake & Stir and written by Laura Murphy. It takes Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and catapults it into the 21st century with a pulsating pop soundtrack, a live band, and a bold twist on the classic tale.
Currently delighting crowds at Brisbane Festival with nightly standing ovations, The Lovers has critics raving. The Courier Mail declared:
“Truly magical… looks and feels like a big-budget Broadway import, yet pulses with fresh Australian energy. Mark my words: this is Australia’s next big musical.”
The star-studded cast includes Natalie Abbott (Muriel’s Wedding The Musical), Jason Arrow (Hamilton), Jayme-Lee Hanekom (Tina The Tina Turner Musical), Loren Hunter (SIX The Musical), Stellar Perry (Jesus Christ Superstar), and Mat Verevis (Beautiful), alongside an ensemble of standout Australian talent.
Guiding the production is a powerhouse creative team led by Director Nick Skubij, with choreography by Yvette Lee, design by Isabel Hudson, and Tony® Award nominee David Bergman on video and sound.
Romantic, rebellious, and irresistibly fun, The Lovers is a modern love story with a big heart — proving that even when nothing goes as planned, everything happens for a reason.
Tickets are on sale now at Theatre Royal Sydney — but be quick, this extended season won’t last long.
