The PARADOX of Being a Performer – You’re Front & Centre…But It’s Not About You

The PARADOX of being a performer. (May this free you ♡)

As dancers and performers, we’re often front and centre.

It’s our faces, our skill sets, our performing choices in each moment – but, it’s not actually about us.

Of course it’s about you living your dreams, loving your work so much you could burst, having miraculous jobs and experiences onstage manifest, honing your skill set and fulfilling your highest potential.

But simultaneously, it’s not about YOU so much as it’s about you being the conduit, the vessel, for source energy to move THROUGH you – to bring the creative vision you’re serving to life, to move people, to inspire, touch and awaken the souls of your audience ✨

Hence the paradox.

Our egos will try to make it about us, always. ‘What are they thinking about me?’, ‘Am I good enough to be here?’, ‘Oh god I’m making terrible choices onstage/ on set today, I must look like a freaking idiot’.

Enter – rampant self consciousness & overthinking your every move.

Letting your ego make it about YOU is the quickest way to spiral down, down, down into paralysis and doom land and the worst of it: disconnection from your natural gifts and your joy of being onstage. The things that landed you the job to begin with. The things that called you from within, to be onstage to from the start.

One of the most freeing things I’ve ever learned in this career is that it’s Not. About. Me.

It’s about the audience, having a rendezvous with source energy (or whatever wording resonates for you), through you & through the creative vision you’re bringing to life. As you perform. As you focus, relax and let higher consciousness do its thing through you.

That’s why people go to live theatre, to watch films. To be moved in a way that, for so many, rarely happens elsewhere.

To feel connected to the source energy within themselves, being mirrored back to them, by you ✨

Yes, we have so much to learn in our craft and to hone in our skill sets, and we get to live out our dreams and our highest potential – but after that, it’s not about us.

The next time your ego/human brain is trying to make it all about you (it will, always, and that’s ok!) I invite you to remember, that all you need do is ask source energy/ your natural gifts or the higher power of your own understanding, to move through you in the highest possible way for all, let yourself sigh with relief as you come home inside, remembering that that’s the point, and have the time of your life.

You deserve to be in flow state and guided by your innate gifts and inspiration – and the best part? It’s always available and waiting for you.

Much love xx

Grace.
