The Australian Ballet is delighted to announce the return of Storytime Ballet, inviting young audiences on a spellbinding adventure with the enchanting production of The Sleeping Beauty, choreographed by former Artistic Director, David McAllister.

The ultimate interactive and immersive first-time theatre experience for children and families, Storytime Ballet: The Sleeping Beauty will tour to Sydney, Adelaide,Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane from 19 December 2024 to 26 January 2025.

Storytime Ballet: The Sleeping Beauty is a captivating production that brings to life the timeless tale of a sleeping princess and a prince in search of true love, all set to Tchaikovsky’s enchanting score. This magical performance is designed specifically for children aged three years and older.

With a performance duration of just under an hour, a narrator will guide the audience through the much-loved story and invite children to help with some of the magic spells along the way. Audiences are encouraged to come dressed in their favourite ballet-inspired outfits.

The Australian Ballet Artistic Director David Hallberg said: “There is nothing like seeing ballet for the first time as a child, with the wonder and enchantment it brings. Storytime Ballet gives our youngest audiences the magic of The Sleeping Beauty. The Australian Ballet is committed to making ballet accessible to all, and our Storytime Ballet is crafted to spark a passion for dance in children and families.”

“We are thrilled to present this enchanting production, providing young audiences with a memorable introduction to the magic of ballet,” added Hallberg.

Since its debut in 2015, Storytime Ballet has received critical acclaim and enjoyed numerous sold-out performances, drawing more than 31,400 attendees in the 2023/24 season.

The Australian Ballet’s Storytime Ballet: The Sleeping Beauty is a must-see for families this summer, and a memorable gift idea for the festive season. Tickets go on sale on 15 August, with prices starting from $42.

Storytime Ballet, interactive performances for the next generation of dance enthusiasts, has been made possible by the generous support of Gandel Philanthropy, the James & Diana Ramsay Foundation many generous individuals across Australia.

SYNOPSIS
The King and Queen call the fairies of the land to the christening of their only daughter, Aurora. But the King’s servant, Catalabutte, has left a very important fairy, Carabosse, off the list! She is furious and curses the baby. Luckily the kind Lilac Fairy steps in and says that she will not die, but will sleep for 100 years.

A brave Prince is out hunting and discovers the sleeping palace. He breaks Aurora’s spell with a kiss and they celebrate their wedding with all their fairytale friends!
