Victorian Premier and Minister for the Arts Ted Baillieu today announced a charity preview performance of Xanadu The Musical in Melbourne to help raise funds for the Queensland Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal.
The announcement was made as Mr Baillieu visited the Docklands site where the Grand Xanadu Marquee – the purpose-built home for the musical extravaganza – is currently being erected.
The Premier was joined by rising Melbourne star Christie Whelan who plays the lead role of Kira, first made famous by Olivia Newton-John who starred in the cult classic movie Xanadu alongside the legendary Gene Kelly.
“Victoria will do everything it can to help the people of Queensland, who are facing one of their toughest challenges in responding to and recovering from the devastating floods,” Mr Baillieu said. “All Victorians want to reach out to those who gave us their support during the bushfires in 2009. In addition, the arts industry and its performers are renowned for lending a helping hand in times of crisis.
‘This charity preview performance of Xanadu is a great example of how a Victorian production is providing tangible support to Queensland families in desperate need.”
Xanadu The Musical will open in Melbourne on March 3, 2011 and will be staged in the Grand Xanadu
Marquee which forms the centerpiece of XanaduLand – a multi-million dollar, 80s themed one-stop entertainment complex, never before seen in Australia.
The charity preview performance will be held on Tuesday 1st March at 7pm in the Grand Xanadu Marquee with all funds raised through ticket sales going to the Queensland Flood Appeal. A-Reserve tickets are priced at $69.95.
Tickets are on sale now via Ticketek or visit www.xanaduthemusical.com.au. Donations to the Queensland Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal can be made by calling 1800 219 028
