GATSBY at The Green Light is an electrifying, immersive cabaret-theatre spectacle that transports audiences into the heart of a 1920’s speakeasy.

The Green Light, reimagined with a bold 2020s twist, draws its inspiration from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic novel The Great Gatsby, not as a straight adaptation but as a sensory celebration of the glamour, excess, and romantic yearning that the story evokes.

From the moment you enter The Studio, at the iconic Sydney Opera House you are transformed into a low lit, prohibition era club. The ambience sets the tone for a night of decadence. The audience mingles with performers between cocktail tables or traditional seating, as bartenders juggle lemons, waitstaff burst into choreography, and burlesque characters greet you with mischievous charm.

Directed by Craig Ilott, who has curated a multi-disciplinary variety show blending aerial acrobatics, burlesque, vaudeville, dance, live vocals and contemporary music.

The result is less a narrative adaptation and more a pop up speakeasy party, where spectacle and physical performance often take precedence over a traditional storyline. Yet, prepared to be wowed as you are taken on a journey that celebrates the mystic wonder of an era that is a must to return to again and again!

Presented and Produced  by the Sydney Opera House and Caper & Crow, the creative team have certainly transformed it’s audience back into a space where the 1920’s meets 2020. GATSBY at The Green Light

Written by Craig Ilott & Stuart Couzens, the production’s fluid structure means that while the emotional feel of the renowned Gatsby’s theme is present with the pursuit of love and longing, we are kept in a performance that is present, it is delivered through a series of dazzling performances rather than direct dramatic exposition. It certainly doesn’t disappoint with the assortment of top line, A lister talented artist, showcasing their dazzling performances..

The international and multidisciplinary cast is one of the show’s biggest attractions. Performers transition seamlessly between roles as entertainers, interactive hosts, athletes and musicians.

Spencer Craig as Gatsby, is an enigmatic host, Caitlin Tomson-Moylan as Daisy,  is a phenomenal aerial partner and romantic focal point.

Odette is the featured ARIA-nominated vocalist whose soulful delivery threads through the evening’s aural landscape.

Oscar Kaufmann is a debonair performer with signature visual flair.

Bettie Bombshell is the sultry hostess with an electrifying presence and is certainly risque, so beware that this performance also showcases the vulgar and dark side of this era.

Florian Brooks brings his charismatic entertainment quality and is a definite crowd pleaser.

Thomas J Egan is a standout tap dancer and physical performer that certainly entices the crowd.

Young Gatsby & Young Daisy are played by Jacob McPherson & Mariia Borysiak  who bring youthful emotion to aerial duet sequences. They are truly stunning and captivating, as they create awe inspiring shapes while spinning through the air all while adding the integrated part of story telling connecting the theme of the show.

The design from Designer, Stuart Couzens is sensational, with brilliant attention to detail as we also witness a bar integrating into a stage that is ready to feature some truly sensational acts. GATSBY at The Green Light

From burlesque to aerial artistry to music, the multidisciplinary performers hold attention with skill and style. The music from Music Director, Kim Moyes makes you feel alive and engaged in the sheer awe of some of these truly talented artists.

Set Design from Renier Jansen van Vuuren, Alfred, certainly enhances this performance and takes it back, literally to a magic vibe a fast paced party goers with an assortment of variety throughout the evening.

Lighting Design by Matt Marshall is exceptional as is the costumes by Costume Designer, Mason Browne and Rose Jurd, Alfred.

A talented service ensemble doubles as waitstaff and dancers, enhancing the immersive feel and keeping the pace kinetic throughout the night.

The Ensemble Cast made up of Clayton Church, Jaimie Nirvana, Maddi Xuereb, Michelle Leung, Thomas Young, Tiana Vassallo, Willa Bell Klemm are certainly the life of the party, bringing together these unique acts while while enhancing the audience participation and integrated choreography throughout.

The movement is crisp, modern and sharp while connecting the dancers that literally melt into the audience creating almost a flash mob feel from Choreographer, Lucas Newland and Resident Choreographer, Cassie Bartho. The Wicked Game Aerial Choreography is elegant and flowing by Jo Coterill.

The season is showing through until 28th March 2026, so be sure to grab your tickets to enjoy an authentic and entertaining night with a buzz taking you into another world.
