What’s that rustling in my backpack?
Direct from Europe, Murmur is an extraordinary blend of circus and sound theatre created especially for kids and families. This one-of-a-kind performance dares to play with all the senses, combining rustling sound backpacks, a landscape of speakers, and the daring movements of an acrobatic composer.
For the very first time in Australia, audiences are invited into a visual circus that transforms into a multi-sensory sound composition. Murmur is a playful and imaginative experience for anyone who has ever longed to be more than just human.
At the centre of the performance is Camiel, who builds a world entirely out of sound. A purring cat emerges from a pocket, a swarm of bees flies through the air, and a simple arm movement creates the sound of cars rushing past. From the squeak of a finger on a window to the rise and fall of wind that becomes the sound of breath, every moment sparks new wonder.
Surrounded by the audience, Camiel leaps, rolls, falls, and flies as he composes a living soundscape in real time. And then — the magic deepens. The audience’s own backpacks start to buzz, joining the swirl of sounds and turning the entire space into an immersive loudspeaker landscape.
Murmur is part circus, part theatre, and entirely unforgettable. It’s an inventive and captivating performance that will inspire children and adults alike.
