A Very Naughty Christmas

Naughty Never Gets Old as a Fresh Cast Brings New Life to A Very Naughty Christmas

Reviewed by Brendan Daynes

For the second consecutive year, the team behind A Very Naughty Christmas has delivered a hilariously playful holiday spectacle that proves lightning can strike twice. This raucous variety concert, proudly presented by Woodward Productions, remains a must-see for those who love their Christmas cheer with a cheeky twist. Equal parts naughty and nice, this year’s production offers the same winning formula but with a fresh cast breathing new life into its saucy shenanigans—like the minty zing of a candy cane dipped in tequila.

Originally brought to life in 2017 by the creative duo Alex Woodward and Daniel Venz, this adults-only extravaganza throws traditional holiday storytelling out the window in favour of an uninhibited blend of stand-up comedy, satirical skits, parodied songs, and show-stopping dance numbers. With over an hour of dazzling entertainment, the production adds a fresh twist, transforming classic Christmas carols into hilariously cheeky, adults-only experiences that will leave you laughing long after the final bow.

Returning as Santa, Tim Paige is as filthy and fabulous as ever. With impeccable comedic timing and a natural flair for audience interaction, he has the crowd eating out of the palm of his grubby hands—probably best not to think about what he’s been holding. Among the fresh faces, Grace Laing as Santa’s PR queen is a standout. She commands the stage with playful confidence, knowing exactly how to work the audience and keep them in stitches. Jarrod Moore’s smooth vocal tone and comedic charm make him impossible to ignore. His control over his character, costume, and soaring vocals is nothing short of masterful. Justin Wise brings a wide-eyed innocence to his elf character that is both endearing and riotously funny—proving that not all elves are jolly; some are just downright awkward in the most entertaining way. Kate Yaxley returns with all the comedic brilliance of a seasoned pro, hilariously playing the ditsy, loveable sidekick to Santa. Her timing is razor-sharp, and her physical comedy is spot on. Jordan Twigg once again blows the roof off with her silky smooth vocals and powerhouse numbers, cementing her place as the vocal star of the show. Callum Marshall proves his versatility as both a confident, charismatic dancer and a strong singer, showing why he’s such a sought-after performer. Asmara Soekotjo, the show’s Dance Captain, is a choreography powerhouse. Her precision and energy drive the show’s dynamic movement, and her expertise shines through in every number.

When it comes to choreography, Daniel Venz’s exceptional work deserves to be celebrated as a true highlight of the production. The choreography masterfully blends rhythmic tapping, commercial dance, and impressive partner work into a seamless and captivating spectacle. The movement flows seamlessly throughout the performance, keeping the audience entertained and on their toes (or at least on the edge of their seats). Whether it’s high-energy group numbers or smaller, cheeky interludes, the choreography is as versatile and engaging as ever.

This year’s show retains its playful mockery of holiday traditions, with satirical skits poking fun at everything from shopping mall chaos to awkward family dynamics. The result is a comedic playground where nothing is off-limits, and audiences are encouraged to laugh at the absurdities of the season. The interactive elements—like Santa’s shameless audience banter—ensure that no two nights are the same and that everyone feels part of the fun.

A Very Naughty Christmas continues to cement itself as a Melbourne Christmas tradition for those who like their holiday cheer a little more risqué. It’s a brilliantly audacious celebration of the season, full of intimacy, hilarity, and standout performances that will leave you rethinking classic carols and craving more of this deliciously naughty holiday treat.

A Very Naughty Christmas will be delighting audiences in Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, and London throughout December. For more information on the show or to purchase tickets, please visit www.averynaughtychristmas.com.
